Think Global, Eat LOCAL
A Community-Supported Farm in Portland, CT
Established in 2009, Fire Ring Farm is a community-supported farm in Portland, CT, recognized by the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA). It sits on roughly 4 acres of land overlooking the Connecticut River and is surrounded by the Palmer Taylor Preserve managed by the Middlesex Land Trust. Both Fire Ring Farm and Palmer Taylor Preserve are on the original land of the Wangunk and Quinnipiac first people.
At Fire Ring Farm, we believe that food and plants are medicine and water and soil are life. This is why we strive to be an inclusive, environmentally focused, and socially just organic farm. We bring together people from the community to help them create a connection to where their food comes from. Our organization welcomes individuals from all walks of life and helps them get connected to the soil. We do this because we believe that we need to act locally and think globally.

What We Do
Fire Ring Farm is dedicated to growing tasty and nutritious produce using bio-dynamic and sustainable methods of farming. We do not use synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides. Our farming methods do not deplete our natural resources of land and water. Additionally, we rotate our crops, plant cover crops, apply organic compost, introduce beneficial insects, use mechanical and hand cultivation for weed control, utilize proper irrigation methods, consistently care for our soil, and grow seasonally!
Here at our community-supported farm, we support local food along with healthy eating and food access to everyone. People pick up a share of our crops once a week, and we also give away food. Additionally, our organization offers educational programs for nature connections and teaches people about food and how to grow their own.
